Mary Day 2

Well, after a long night's sleep (Mary dropped at 9:20 last night and didn't twitch, except for some two-part harmony snoring with her mom, until 6:20), Mary had her first bath and really seemed to enjoy it. I think she most enjoyed the bubbles and having four giant warm hands devoted solely to her.
We spent the morning finalizing the adoption at the Chengsha Civil Affairs Office. It was a wild whirlwind of signatures, picutures, interviews and fees. When I mentioned how crazy it seemed, our guide Ashley was confused and told me that it is the most efficient system he's ever been a part of. WOW...my head was spinning.
We then went to the BabyStore and bought two pairs of shoes, a pair of pants, two outfits, some sippie cups, diapers, etc. It was a small store with an employee for each square foot - at least three per patron. We spent 560 Yuan ($70 US), and will never forget the experience.
From there, we went to lunch where Mary discovered the unequalled joy of French Fry consumption. She also enjoys noodles, rice, congee, steamed eggs and other dietary staples, but has taken a shine to watermelon, brownies and banana bread.
After lunch, we all needed a nap and zonked-out for almost three hours. In fact, we got up in just enough time to head to dinner for some more fries, but also some serious sippie cup operational exploration. She's almost got it.

It's pretty hard to believe that you know how to spell sippie cup already! Thank goodness she looks like Leigh and not like Mike.

Love the pic of her crackin' up! I'm using that as my Mary-computer-wallpaper-of-the-day.

Message for Mary - Woooo! Brownies and fries! You go girl!

Have fun!

Mike and Leigh ... those pictures are so incredible. You two take care of that precious little one, and if you ever need someone to take care of her, I'm sure my wife would fight for the chance!!!

Wow! If her happiness is incremental, I can only imagine what she'll look like in a week, or a month or a year! That giggly picture is worth a million bucks and your first family portrait is a keeper.

Mike - I a favor to ask: Since you have such a descriptive way with words, i was hoping you could tell me what her sweet little forehead smells like - especially when she wakes up. I'm dying to know! (Feel free to throw in what it feels like to bury your face in her neck, too, if you want!)

Love,
Auntie Lori

Hey, guys! What a wonderful experience you two (now three) are going through. Thanks for keeping us all posted and we can't wait to see her and hold her when you return. Sounds like you are enjoying every single moment, and that's as it should be. Take care. Really looking forward to seeing the whole family back home!
